Plume in Clearfield may take Hill 30 years to clean By Antone Clark Ogden Standard-Examiner (UT) September 19, 2005 CLEARFIELD -- Air Force officials are continuing an effort to test for potential contaminants in the air inside homes within the area of a plume of contaminated groundwater. Earlier this month, officials from Hill Air Force Base mailed approximately 400 packets to residents living near an area of contamination between Main Street and 700 West and between 300 North and 800 North. The milelong plume stretching through this city is one of 12 plumes of contamination linked to the base. The packets contain detailed information about an air-testing program that officials use to trace possible contaminants. The pollutants can enter homes through cracks and gaps in the foundation. There have been a little more than 90 homes tested so far; 26 show some trace of contaminants. ...
