Nearly 20 years later, Henderson plant explosion could become a factor in 2006 governor's contest Anjeanette Damon RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL (NV) October 2, 2005 For 30 years, the Pacific Engineering and Production Co. rocket fuel plant operated quietly in the center of Henderson. Melding into the town's character as an industrial city, the plant was run by one of Henderson's most well-established families. Its president was one of the state's most well-respected politicians. But in 1988, it blew up, ravaging the blue-collar hamlet. The series of explosions demolished the factory and a neighboring marshmallow plant, killing two people and injuring 300 more. ...
