RPV studies Nike site for center Environmental report shows contamination on the missile silo land, but not enough to stop art, civic facility. By Nick Green Daily Breeze (CA) October 3, 2005 An environmental study of an old Nike missile silo in Rancho Palos Verdes where a nonprofit group hopes to build an art center revealed no significant problems that could derail the proposal, officials say. However, the study turned up evidence of heavy metals, as many as three underground 8,000-gallon steel gas tanks, oil in a hydraulic lift used to raise the missiles, asbestos, lead-based paint and mold. But City Manager Les Evans said none of the heavy metals -- barium, cadmium and chromium -- was found in concentrations that could endanger human health. ...
