Twiggs County neighbors divided about removal of explosives By S. Heather Duncan MACON TELEGRAPH (GA) November 14, 2005 Residents of a Twiggs County neighborhood littered with explosives are being asked in the next few months to let the government clean it up. Many residents seem willing to sign the required right-of-entry contracts, but some question whether there's enough money to finish the job. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is coordinating the cleanup of the Redbud Drive/Dogwood Road neighborhood in Twiggs County, which was once part of a firing range for the World War II army training ground called Camp Wheeler. A survey last year by contractor EOD Technology found mortars, grenades and other ordnance that could still explode. EODT has now been hired to remove the ordnance and is meeting individually with land owners about the process. ...
