Project nears end at Tinker By John Sutter The Oklahoman January 9, 2006 A plan to clear land around Tinker Air Force Base nearly is complete, and Oklahoma County may have spent $30 million less than it asked voters for in 2002. The final piece of property in the buyout -- a family-owned gas station -- was condemned by Oklahoma County Commissioners last week, and officials said the project helped slide Tinker past a round of federal base closures. Commissioners are discussing what to do with the $30 million in unsold and unused bonds. Oklahoma County voters approved $50 million in bonds for the project. More than 100 homes were acquired using the county's power of eminent domain....
