BY MATT SABO Hampton Roads Daily Press (VA) February 9 2006 POQUOSON -- Soil contaminated with jet fuel was hauled from Langley Air Force Base to a city park in June, and now state Department of Environmental Quality officials are investigating. Last week, a city employee shut and locked the entrance gate to South Lawson Park, after results of a June soil test began circulating around town. The results prompted citizens to complain to city officials that residents were being exposed to potentially harmful fumes. A DEQ official blasted the city's belated response. The department found out about the contamination last week, after a citizen filed a complaint. ...
