Water Tested for Contamination Addie Bradshaw WLTX-TV News 19 (Columbia, SC) February 15, 2006 (Sumter) - Officials at Shaw Air Force Base continue their efforts to determine the extent of groundwater contamination caused by Trichloroethylene, or TCE. The once commonly-used industrial strength degreaser has been present in some areas near the base for 15 years. Through new rounds of well-water testing, officials want to make sure the contamination zone hasn't expanded. Nearby Shaw resident Ralph Oxendine says he's glad the base has agreed to test his water supply. He's enjoyed his well for about five years, and says he wants to make sure it's safe to use for many more to come. ...
