Yuma considering major annexationBY MICHELLE VOLKMANN YUMA SUN (AZ) Mar 1, 2006 The city of Yuma may soon start where Wellton stops. The city of Yuma is considering annexing 135.12 square miles of federal land east of the current city limits that will more than double the city's size. The annexation doesn't include any state or private land. City officials said this annexation is necessary for Yuma to grow, protect the military training ranges and preserve open spaces for the public. "We don't have any place to grow," Mayor Larry Nelson said. "We are bounded by the airport and the military. We have to prepare for the future." ...
