Tungsten spread to be testedBy AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) May 1, 2006 CAMP EDWARDS - The Army Environmental Center will determine the extent of tungsten contamination caused by the so-called environmentally friendly bullet. This week, military officials will meet with the regional Environmental Protection Agency and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection officials to hash out the details of the groundwater investigation. Although there are no drinking water limits for tungsten, and tungsten toxicology research is still under way, a ban was ordered after the heavy metal used in ammunition at the base was found in the water table. It was found at a rate of 22 parts per billion in the aquifer under the base, the Upper Cape's sole source of drinking water. ...
