Panel hears water woesBy Patricia Bertuccio Concord Beacon (MA) June 15, 2006 ACTON - Residents of East Acton want the town to speed up efforts in addressing possible water pollution in their neighborhood. At a June 12 Board of Selectmen meeting, a dozen homeowners voiced continued dissatisfaction with town officials over the water issue. Blasting for a subdivision of the Ellsworth Village, a senior residential development on Brabrook Road, may have resulted in perchlorate contamination in private East Acton wells. Perchlorate is a naturally occurring toxin found in rocket fuel, some explosives and certain fertilizers. Before construction, James Fenton, the village's developer, provided the Board of Health with documents that the toxin would not be used in the blasting material. Since the explosions began in late 2005, however, residents who tested their water before and after these events found traces of perchlorate. ...
