Judge Awards Whittaker Site Sale to SunCal

The contaminated 996-acre Whittaker-Bermite site that lies in the center 
of the city of Santa Clarita was awarded to SunCal Companies in 
conjunction with Cherokee Investment Partners for $63.8 million Thursday 
by an Arizona federal bankruptcy judge

The two firms announced their joint-bid for the site that was home to a 
munitions manufacturing for decades at a previous sale hearing in late May.

The parties, including Phoenix-based Remediation Financial Inc., which 
owns the site and is undergoing federal bankruptcy proceedings, 
negotiated a sales agreement for the site, city attorney Carl Newton said.
