8th Circuit: Rocket-fuel maker can recover clean-up costs from US By JILL ZEMAN LITTLE ROCK - A firm that voluntarily cleaned up toxic rocket fuel contamination at a southern Arkansas industrial park can try to recover part of its clean-up costs from the U.S. government, a federal panel ruled Friday. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at St. Louis overturned a lower court decision that barred Atlantic Research Corp. from pursuing repayment for cleaning up its former facility in Camden. Atlantic - which has since been bought out by Aerojet - retrofitted rocket motors for the U.S. government from 1981 to 1986 at a Highland Industrial Park in Camden. Workers used power-sprayers to remove rocket propellant. Once removed, the fuel was burned, and residue from the burnt rocket fuel contaminated the soil and groundwater. Rocket fuel contains perchlorate, which has been linked to thyroid disorders and birth defects. ...
