[I am surprised that insurers willing to insure fireworks displays against other significant risks, such as fire, are unwilling to cover potential litigation over groundwater contamination. - LS]


Fireworks fizzle for Harwich

HARWICH - The star-crossed Cranberry Festival pyrotechnic show is like a shell that rockets into the night sky but fails to explode.

Citing insurance issues, the show's vendor has refused to blast fireworks behind Harwich High School in September, including fireworks that do not contain the perchlorate at the heart of the dispute.

The decision by Garden State Fireworks, the provider for more than 20 years, not to launch nitrate-based propellants douses any hope of a fireworks show this year. The Cranberry Festival runs on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17.
