Military needs to clean up toxic bases in northern Ontario, says MPMICHAEL HAMMOND Canadian Press/CBC August 23, 2006 OTTAWA (CP) - A northern Ontario MP is urging the Conservative government to clean up 17 contaminated former radar bases he says continue to threaten the health of First Nations communities. New Democrat Charlie Angus, who represents the Timmins-James Bay riding, said abandoned PCB, oil and fuel barrels at 1960s-era radar bases continue to seep into hunting grounds throughout Ontario's Hudson Bay and James Bay lowlands. After being "stonewalled" by the previous Liberal government on the issue, Angus is counting on the Tories to make the cleanup part of their plan to assert military control over the North. ...
