Deal needed to pay airfield costsBy KEVIN DENNEHY Cape Cod Times August 26, 2006 The Cape's congressional delegation is urging the Massachusetts National Guard to settle a cost-sharing agreement that would allow the U.S. Coast Guard to keep its air station on the Upper Cape. Although the Coast Guard recently learned it will receive an intelligence mission at Otis Air National Guard Base to replace the outgoing F-15 fighter jets, it is unclear who will cover the $17 million annual cost of running the base's airfield. The air station currently shares the airstrip with the 102nd Fighter Wing. And if the National Guard doesn't help with the costs, Coast Guard leaders say they can't afford to stay. ...
