Military explosive suspected in deadly explosion

BAKERSFIELD - An old military explosive is believed to be the cause of a 
blast that killed two children and left several others injured Tuesday.

The explosion occurred in the 1900 block of Maple Street around 4:45 
p.m., according to the Bakersfield Fire Department.

Officials say Andrew Etcheverry, 8, died at the scene and Jeni Marie 
Klawitter, 7, died less than an hour later at Kern Medical Center. Six 
other children were injured in the blast.
