Coast Guard clearedBy AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) September 20, 2006 OTIS AIR BASE - The Coast Guard is off the hook for a high-level detection of a fuel additive found in the Otis groundwater. An investigation of the 1,430-parts-per-billion detection of methyl tert-butyl ether, or MTBE, determined it did not come from a nearby Coast Guard-operated gas station. There appears to be no large plume of the gasoline additive in the southwestern portion of the Upper Cape base, as originally feared. But exactly who or what caused the contamination discovered underground near an abandoned school three years ago is unclear, according to state Department of Environmental Protection officials. ...
