Chemical treatment to expandBy AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) September 21, 2006 EAST FALMOUTH - Air Force officials plan to expand an East Falmouth groundwater treatment system to capture a previously undetected portion of an ethylene dibromide plume. The Air Force started pumping and cleaning a plume of ethylene dibromide, or EDB, flowing in the aquifer under the Hatchville-area in 1997. The toxic chemical, an aviation fuel additive, was traced back to activity at Otis Air National Guard Base, an Air Force base until the 1970s. In an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency, a portion of the plume was allowed to escape and was expected to naturally dissipate below levels that would be a health concern. ...
