I-933 could encroach on basesBy Jim Haley Everett Herald (WA) November 2, 2006 Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and other military bases could see incompatible growth occur outside their fences if a measure on next week's ballot passes, congressional and city officials worry. And that could hurt the state's future chance of keeping some military bases - and the $7 billion that they feed into the state's economy each year. On Whidbey, local officials have taken care to restrict incompatible development near the base, including runway approaches where noise and potential crashes are a concern. ...
