Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] DOE Legacy Management draft Strategic Plan |
The following comes from the Energy Communities Alliance
(www.energyca.org). - LS ECA Update: LM Releases Strategic Plan The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Legacy Management (LM) today released the "LM Draft Strategic Plan" for public comment. The 21-page document will be available on the LM Web site at http://www.lm.doe.gov/pro_doc/strategicplan2006.htm through January 2, 2007. The plan explains the office's responsibilities and outlines a comprehensive management plan extending to the year 2020 for all legacy issues. The plan also identifies LM's five primary goals as: * Protect human health and the environment through effective and efficient long-term surveillance and maintenance; * Preserve, protect, and make accessible legacy records and information; * Support an effective and efficient work force structured to accomplish Departmental missions and ensure contractor worker pension and medical benefits; * Manage legacy land and assets, emphasizing protective real and personal property reuse and disposition; and * Improve program effectiveness through sound management. The Strategic Plan identifies how LM will carry out its responsibilities while responding to increasing issues and demands. This strategy includes processes for implementing effective and efficient business practices, incorporating future advances in science and technology, and ensuring close coordination with stakeholders, Congress, and state, tribal and local governments. LM is using a Web-based approach to reduce cost and minimize the environmental impacts of preparing this plan. However, hard copies can be requested by either completing a document request form at http://lts1.gjo.doe.gov/forms/documentrequestplan.cfm or by sending an e-mail to LM@hq.doe.gov. --
