The cost of keeping Churchill County green

Although Churchill County residents currently enjoy great expanses of 
open area and farmland, this may not always be the case.

With growing residential development occurring in this area, many local 
groups, including the Agriculture Preservation Working Group (APWG), 
fear a loss of farmland and are taking measures to prevent this from 
occurring.

To convince growers to continue using their land for agricultural use, 
Churchill County, or in some cases, the U.S. Navy, agreed to pay farmers 
the amount that their land is currently appraised at if it were to be 
sold for building and development, Erica Behimer, present LVEA Executive 
Director explained.
