Litchfield Park suspends fishing after chemical found in lake water Beth Duckett The Arizona Republic March 9, 2007Litchfield Park officials have suspended fishing at Tierra Verde Lake Park after detecting a hazardous chemical in the lake and its well. Officials believe the chemical came from a plume of groundwater contamination by the Phoenix Goodyear Airport North Superfund Site. The city learned last fall that the plume is migrating north and northeast toward Litchfield Park. This is the first time the city has detected contaminants in the popular lake, at Villa Nueva Drive and Old Litchfield Road, since it began tests in November, City Manager Darryl Crossman said. Recent water samples reveal trace amounts of potassium perchlorate, a colorless substance that inhibits the thyroid. ...
