Park district might by land near Nike Park By KATE R. HOULIHAN Naperville Sun (IL) March 10, 2007Land in the north part of the city that was once slated to be sold to developers could soon come under the ownership of the Naperville Park District to be used as indoor and outdoor recreation space. At Thursday's meeting commissioners unanimously gave the go-ahead for the district to proceed with purchasing 20 acres of land that abuts the north-side Nike Park sports complex. Nike Park is at the southeast corner of Diehl Road and Mill Street. The wooded 20 acres sits directly to the south of the westernmost portion of the park. ...What is now Nike Park and the surrounding business park housed a Cold War-era missile battery from 1956 to 1963, first operated by the U.S Army. ...
