EPA faults Air Force cleanup in Falmouth By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) March 15, 2007BOURNE - After months of debate, Air Force leaders and environmental regulators still cannot come to an agreement on the cleanup of a plume of groundwater contamination in Falmouth's Ashumet Valley. Last night, Air Force officials offered two more options on how the solvent plume could be cleaned, but military leaders said they still believe the southernmost portion of the plume should be allowed to disperse naturally to safe levels. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials would like to see the military clean up more of the plume. The parties will take the debate into arbitration if they can't agree between now and the end of a public comment period this summer. ''This is a large portion of this plume,” Lynne Jennings of the EPA said at the Plume Containment Team meeting last night. ''We don't think it makes sense to let it go.” ...
