Guard seeks sites for low-level jet training By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) April 4, 2007OTIS AIR BASE - Massachusetts Air Guard officials have petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration to practice low-level flying maneuvers over Maine and New Hampshire, Guard leaders said this week. Less than 5 percent of the 102nd Fighter Wing's F-15 pilots have completed their required low-altitude training because of the lack of appropriate training space, according to Guard documents submitted to the FAA. Air Guard leaders are asking the FAA to expand training airspace above sparsely populated areas in northern New England so fighter pilots can practice low-level maneuvers considered crucial to the fighter wing's homeland defense missions. ...
