More unexploded ordnance found in county By EVE BYRON Helena Independent Record (MT) May 7, 2005For the second time in less than one week, a suspected pile of unexploded ordnance - including howitzer shells - was discovered in Lewis and Clark County. Cliff Youmans, an ordnance removal project leader with the Montana Army National Guard, confirmed Monday morning that explosives were found west of Helena in the vicinity of Rimini on May 1. Another pile of unexploded ordnance, known as UXO, was found on April 28 near Helena’s southwestern city limits on Grizzly Gulch. Youmans said he believes the two incidents are related, in part because both involved some devices that weren’t live, even though they looked like live rounds and both sites contained howitzer shells. The material found last Tuesday looked to be from the Vietnam era, he added. ...
