March of 2009 date for cleanup By DONNA WRIGHT Bradenton Herald (FL) May 8, 2007Lockheed Martin Corp. by March of 2009 plans to have a system of extraction wells and trenches in place to clean up the Tallevast plume, according to a proposal submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Lockheed has estimated it could take 20 years or more to clean up the toxic chemical spill that has contaminated more than 200 acres beneath the historic community. The pollution has been traced back to the former Loral American Beryllium Co. plant at 1600 Tallevast Road. Lockheed is responsible for the cleanup because the spill was discovered during its ownership of the plant in 2000. ...
