No Explosives Turn Up in Jackson Park's Big Dig By Ed Friedrich Kitsap Sun (WA) June 21, 2007 BREMERTONHundreds of bright pink flags dot the Jackson Park housing complex grounds. They mark where explosives might be found. But so far Navy contractors haven't unearthed anything that could blow up. No bombs. No buried treasure. Just a bunch of construction junk in the 4,000 holes they have dug. The 300-acre complex contains housing for 3,000 Navy personnel. From 1904 to 1959, the site was home to Naval Ammunition Depot Puget Sound. The munitions buildings were demolished between 1973 and 1975, when the housing was built. The latest digging began on April 30 after the Navy and Environmental Protection Agency reached agreement about how much work needs to be done at the federal Superfund site, said Navy spokeswoman Sheila Murray. ...
