1,400 acres protected; state provides funds to set easements near Fort
Huachuca
By Bill Hess Sierra Vista Herald/Review (AZ) July 13, 2007SIERRA VISTA - The state is providing nearly $3 million to protect about 1,400 acres, some of which is near Huachuca City, by putting easements on land to limit the amount of homes that can be built, members of the Upper San Pedro Partnership were told Wednesday. A thousand of the acres will not have any homes and another 400 will be limited to one home for every 36 acres instead of one home per four acres, as well as not allowing any further splits of the 36 acre parcels, according to Gretchen Kent, the director of the Fort Huachuca Garrison’s Plans, Analysis and Integration Office. However, Huachuca City Mayor Pro Tem David Perry said the Town Council is concerned about the potential that purchasing easements near the community may limit Huachuca City’s capability to annex areas. Tuesday, the Governor’s Military Affairs Commission approved the use of state money to purchase the two pieces of property that abut Fort Huachuca. ...
