Good turnout for meeting on growth from Fort Lee BY LINDSAY SIMPSON Petersburg Progress Index (VA) February 4, 2007 PETERSBURG - More than 200 community leaders, residents and business owners turned out for last night’s meeting at Union Train Station, where the Fort Lee Growth Management Plan was presented to the public. The plan addressed the personnel growth at Fort Lee due to the Base Realignment and Closure actions of 2005 and how it will affect the surrounding jurisdictions. The verdict is that none of the six localities will escape the effects of BRAC, all of them expecting to gain residents over the span of the next six years. Most of the numbers are calculated through 2013, once the BRAC construction and personnel changes are complete. Major findings include housing, education and child care points. The plan stated that the house pricing within the income brackets of those relocating to Fort Lee should be between $200,000 and $300,000. After $300,000 the ability to pay for the home significantly drops. ...
