TOWN OF TONAWANDA: Federal money lets Army Corps of Engineers continue cleanup By Daniel Pye The Tonawanda News (NY) December 18, 2007 Millions of dollars in funding from Congress will ensure the clean up of the former Linde facilities continues without a break. Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee, announced Tuesday that the House of Representatives passed the Omnibus appropriations bill Monday night, which included $140 million for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). The funding will provide the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the resources necessary to continue the cleanup efforts for the former Linde site in the town, now owned by Praxair. "This funding is a significant step forward in our fight to clean up the former Linde site," Slaughter said. "I am very pleased that critical resources have been secured to move ahead with the project. By passing this legislation, Congress is working to meet its obligation to the residents of Tonawanda and the surrounding area." ...
