Camp Ripley buffer prevents stifling boom By Kirsti Marohn St. Cloud Times (MN) January 27, 2008 LITTLE FALLS - Where Dale Nelson grew up, it wasn't uncommon to hear artillery booming in the distance. It wasn't in a war-torn foreign country, but on a Darling Township farm in rural Morrison County — just a couple of miles from Camp Ripley, the primary training facility for the Minnesota National Guard. "I've lived here my whole life," Nelson said. "It might bother new people moving in, but it don't bother me." Nelson is one of 25 landowners who have enrolled some or all of their land in a program designed to create a buffer around Camp Ripley to ensure development doesn't interfere with the camp's operations. ...
