Protesters seek voice in Rialto, Colton perchlorate talks By DOUGLAS QUAN Riverside Press-Enterprise (CA) February 1, 2008 Waving placards that read "No back door deals" and "We demand clean up now," about 15 Rialto residents and environmental activists gathered in downtown Riverside on Friday to complain that they were being shut out of negotiations over the region's largest unabated groundwater pollution case. In November, officials with the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board began holding closed talks with three companies accused of contributing to perchlorate pollution over the past 55 years in Rialto and Colton. "We find it outrageous that public policy is being conducted behind closed doors in secret meetings," said Penny Newman, executive director of the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice. ...
