Whiting Field makes Governor's list

MILTON - Governor Charlie Crist has placed the acquisition of 5,000 
acres of land surrounding NAS Whiting Field among the state's top 21 
Florida Forever projects - a program aimed at the conservation of 
natural resources, such as forests and streams.

"It really is a pretty significant thing for Santa Rosa County," says 
Beckie Faulkenberry, Director of Planning and Zoning. "To have a project 
that may be selected for this type of funding is very significant when 
you're looking at such a competitive grant program."

The program is the largest of its kind in the country and has 
collectively protected 535,643 acres of land with $1.8 billion between 
its inception in 2001 and September 2006.
