Down on the farm print this article Toxic dump at Labrador airbase sparks environmental class action BY JAMIE BAKER St. John's Telegram (Newfoundland and Labrador) March 3, 2008 A Happy Valley-Goose Bay farmer has launched an environmental class action against the provincial and federal governments, claiming that contamination from a toxic dumpsite at 5 Wing Goose Bay ruined his livelihood. Tom Angiers is one of about a dozen farmers who owned land along the Trans-Labrador Highway near the south escarpment of 5 Wing Goose Bay, which had previously been home to an old United States Air Force (USAF) dump commonly known as Stillwater. An investigation by Transcontinental Media in August 2004 revealed that National Defence asked the provincial government to cease any new agricultural land leasing in the area based on concern about the threat of possible contamination migration from the old dumpsite. ...
