Firm to buy land on former Navy base
Remaining swath sold for project in South Weymouth

The US Navy is selling the remaining 892 acres it controls at the former 
South Weymouth Naval Air Station, opening the way for housing and 
commercial development at the deactivated military base.

The South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp., a quasi-public agency 
overseeing the redevelopment project, reached an agreement Monday night 
with LNR Property Corp. to purchase the bulk of the property for $43 
million.

"It's the deal we've been working on for a while," Terry Fancher, 
executive director of the South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp., said 
in a phone interview. South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp. negotiated 
the agreement with the US Navy, which is expected to approve the deal 
and could transfer portions of the land as early as this summer, Fancher 
said.
