Topsham weighs benefits of business development park

TOPSHAM - Topsham Development, Inc., updated the board of selectmen last 
week on its plans to develop a business park in the northwest quadrant 
of the Interstate 295 and Route 196 interchange, and the importance of 
giving the state of the local economy.

The area is now zoned for a business park but will need infrastructure 
such as three-phase power, sewer and natural gas to be developed. It has 
also been designated within the military redevelopment zone, which means 
there are financial incentives in place for developers. As it was in 
2006, development of a business park remains TDI's highest economic 
development priority.

Selectmen voiced support for a business park but not for incurring more 
debt for taxpayers to pay for infrastructure.
