Group: Army's plan to protect groundwater near Badger plant doesn't go far enough By Tim Damos Baraboo News Republic (WI) March 27, 2008 A watchdog group says the Army's plan to protect groundwater from toxic soil at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant might not be good enough. But the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources last week gave approval to the plan, which includes placing caps over three pits on the west side of the plant in the township of Sumpter. When the plant was operational, the Army dumped and burned excess chemicals - including some that cause cancer - in the pits while making ammunition. The caps are intended to prevent rainwater from passing through contaminated soil and picking up toxic chemicals before reaching groundwater. ...
