NIAGARA FALLS: Seeking help along the waterfront

Rep. Louise Slaughter proposes new brownfield cleanup bill

Turning contaminated industrial sites into diverse and healthy 
businesses is one of the primary goals of Niagara Falls officials.

Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, used her first ever trip to Niagara 
Falls City Hall to announce a proposed law aimed to help that effort, 
specifically along waterfront corridors such as Buffalo Avenue.

"It's obviously been a problem I discovered pretty early, how serious 
the brownfield issue is in Niagara County," Slaughter said to a crowd of 
public officials and interested observers. "The new law would clean up 
brownfield sites that are particularly close to the water, which of 
course affects you very much."
