Formerly Used Defense Site, but it is adjacent to the Marion Engineering

Army Corps: Reserve site ready for use
Final decision will be issued after public comment period

MARION - A former training site for the Army Reserve is ready to be used 
again for training and commercial or industrial use, according to the 
Army Corps of Engineers’ proposed plan.

The public has until April 16 to submit comments on the plan, which was 
presented Thursday at Tri-Rivers Career Center. Once it has taken into 
account public input, the Corps of Engineers will issue a decision 
document, which determines what will be done with the Army Reserve site, 
said Kimberlee Turner, spokeswoman for the Corps of Engineers.

In October, Kemron Environmental Services, an Army contractor, completed 
the removal, treatment and transportation of 400 cubic yards of soil 
contaminated with hazardous material and removal of 14,376 cubic yards 
of soil from the Marion Local Training Area at 2565 Harding Highway E. 
The soil removed was transported to County Environmental of Wyandot near 
Carey.

At Thursday’s presentation, Caledonia resident Jodi Griffith and Marion 
resident Ralph Hill questioned the findings of Kemron and the Army Corps 
of Engineers.
