Horsham blasts Pa.'s proposal for base

The state has made its pitch. Horsham isn't buying it.

Horsham's council fired off a letter Thursday to Gov. Ed Rendell, asking 
him to reject a proposal to create an emergency preparedness and 
homeland security base at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint 
Reserve Base.

The council said residents see the proposed installation "as a thinly 
veiled attempt to ensure that the airport will remain available for use 
as the commonwealth sees fit."

The development required to support the base's mission would be so 
intense that it would more than likely be inconsistent with the 
township's comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision and land 
development ordinance and the storm water requirements, the letter says.
