Grant sought for land cleanup By RON SELAK JR. Warren Tribune Chronicle (OH) April 3, 2008 VERNON - Environmental upgrades to the former Trumbull County nursing home land in Brookfield are being planned so the abandoned property can be developed. Commissioners on Wednesday OK'd moving ahead with asking the state Environmental Protection Agency for money to revitalize the brownfield area along state Route 7. The money would be used to make the site fit for other purposes. It also was once the location of a military radar installation. "This is 40 acres we’d like to get back into use," Commissioner Paul Heltzel said. Planning Commission Director Alan Knapp said there would need to be an assessment of the property to determine what contamination exists and how much. Then work could begin on removing the dirty land and material. ...
