Air Force nears end of Luke easement

The Air Force is close to concluding a successful four-year effort to 
buy easements near the runway of Luke Air Force Base to protect the base 
from residential encroachment, an Air Force spokesman says.

The Air Force, working with the Army Corps of Engineers, has acquired 
nearly all the easements necessary to protect the most critical areas 
near the northern and southern ends of the Luke runway, said Michael 
Briggs, a spokesman for the Air Education and Training Command at 
Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

Keeping homes from being built on the land means Luke will be able to 
carry out its flight missions and that homeowners won't be placed in 
harm's way, he said.
