Building near Luke at issue Dispute flares up again as county asks state for clarification by Yvonne Wingett and Charles Kelly The Arizona Republic July 26, 2008Maricopa County supervisors on Friday asked Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard to clarify his opinion that they shouldn't issue building permits in a "buffer zone" meant to protect an auxiliary field near Luke Air Force Base from encroachment. It is the latest in the years-long back-and-forth between county, local and state officials over development near the West Valley base. County officials said Goddard's March opinion does not make it clear enough to them that they can deny building permits without violating property rights. They worry doing so might expose taxpayers to legal fees and costs to compensate landowners. ...
