Ft. Meade Readies for Influx Construction Begins on Buildings for 5,700 New Workers By Raymond McCaffrey Washington Post April 17, 2008 Nearly three years after the Pentagon announced a base realignment plan that called for thousands of workers to come to Fort Meade, ground finally has been broken on a $369 million complex to accommodate new personnel. The ceremony scheduled yesterday for the Defense Information Systems Agency headquarters marked a tangible step in the implementation of the Base Realignment and Closure plan. A similar ceremony took place last month at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County on a campus to accommodate the anticipated influx of workers there. "This is the first major construction getting underway at Fort Meade," said David Ruderman, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District. ...
