Port asks navy for control of pier Transfer of site would mean more contracts, officials say By Fanny S. Chirinos Corpus Christi Caller Times (TX) May 14, 2008Officials with the Port of Corpus Christi are asking the Navy to help them bring more revenue to the area, in particular the city of Ingleside, by transferring control of Naval Station Ingleside's 1,100-foot pier as soon as possible. Port commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to submit a letter to base Capt. Leland "B.T." Taylor requesting he consider and forward the request to his superiors. The letter was mailed Tuesday afternoon, said Tom Moore, the port's business development manager. John LaRue, the port's executive director, plans to use the double-decked pier near a deepwater port for military layberthing, or homeporting military cargo ships. The port is layberthing ships in the inner harbor's south side and bulk terminals and says the pier at Ingleside will help the port secure more contracts. ...
