Air base leaders fret over nearby development BY REBECCA DELLAGLORIA Miami Herald (FL) June 2, 2008To prevent encroachment on the Homestead Air Reserve Base, its leaders implored the Homestead City Council on Tuesday to ensure development doesn't interfere with flights and other operations. During a public workshop Tuesday, consultants who worked on two separate studies involving the base addressed ways to ensure public safety, minimize noise from jet engines and protect the base from encroachment via zoning and land-use regulations. The base's new wing commander, Col. William Binger, said the city and the base have common interests. "My No. 1 priority is safety," Binger said. "And after that, it is economic development and prosperity. We all win when we have all three of those elements." ...
