Army Change Of Heart? Hartford Courant (CT) June 4, 2008Word that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers may be considering an alternate site - a brownfield, no less - as the location for a regional military training base is very welcome. Early this year, Army officials announced they were eyeing a 40-acre meadow along Freeman Road in southeastern Middletown's Maromas section for a 273,000-square-foot training center. The center is part of a planned consolidation of seven Army Reserve and Connecticut National Guard facilities in the state. Army officials said the Freeman Road site would be easy to develop and readily accessible by way of Route 9. ...Recently, Middletown officials said the Army appears to have given up on the Freeman Road site in favor of another location on River Road opposite the NRG power plant. ...
