Navy To Give Helicopter Hangar, Factory To Kaman Aerospace By KIM MARTINEAU Hartford Courant (CT) June 4, 2008The Navy is giving away a helicopter hangar and factory in Bloomfield to its longtime tenant, military subcontractor Kaman Aerospace. In exchange, the company has promised to remove toxic pollution that has been stewing below ground for decades. The estimated cleanup tab: $9 million.Kaman Corp., in the deal, would gain ownership of the 85-acre property where Charles Kaman began operating a large plant just a few years after he founded the company in West Hartford. Before the public land can trade hands, a federal judge must approve the deal, expected sometime this summer. After that, Kaman has two years to put together a plan for removing the pollutants, mainly degreasing solvents and chromium used in the metal finishing process, that over decades have seeped into the watershed surrounding Mill and Beaman's brook. ...
