Port of CC aims to be ready for Navy's Ingleside exit By Fanny S. Chirinos Corpus Christi Caller-Times (TX) June 29, 2008INGLESIDE - It takes almost $4 million a year in utilities to keep Naval Station Ingleside running. Although that amount will be significantly reduced when its personnel begins transferring in a couple of years to either to Norfolk, Va., or San Diego, Calif., maintaining the base's facilities in their current condition is expected to be a sizable expense. Port of Corpus Christi officials have begun preparing for the base's closure by hiring a master developer whom they presume would take over that expense. Of the 1,067 acres of the base, 912 acres revert to the port when the Navy leaves. Its departure is expected by Sept. 30, 2010. Those acres include 483 acres of the main base, 336 acres of a dredge material placement area and 93 underwater acres. The port deeded those acres to the Navy in the late 1980s. ...
